Kyiv National University
Kyiv National University is an institution of higher education that trains specialists in many fields of knowledge and carries out researches. Although this description can be applied to any other institution of similar kind but it is the number-one Ukrainian university, and a major centre of advanced learning and progressive thinking. It consists of more faculties and departments than any other University in Ukraine and provides training of specialists in a greater number of fields than any other comparable Ukrainian educational institution.
Kyiv University is named after Taras Shevchenko, a major figure in Ukrainian arts. The Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University is a world wide known establishment of higher education. Since the time of its foundation, a hundred and sixty years ago, the University has been generating progressive ideas, shaping Ukrainian intellect, and providing champions of upheld national liberation activity in Ukraine. It has always upheld the Ukrainian freedom-loving spirit.
Today, the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University is a multidisciplinary educational and scientific complex, which comprises 14 faculties (Faculties of Biology, Geography, Geology, Economics, History, Cybernetics, Mechanics and Mathematics, Radiophysics, Social Sciences, Physics, Philosophy, Chemistry, Law, and the Preparatory Faculty), 5 institutes (Military, International Relations, Postgraduate Studies, Linguistics and Literature), Centers of Qualification and Requalification of Foreign Citizens and Center of Ukrainian Studies, the Institute of Research and Development in Physiology, Botanical Garden, Zoological Museum, M.Maksymovych Scientific Library, the IT Center, an Astronomical observatory, and a Publishing-polygraphic center. The University is also the co-founder of three institutes and two colleges, where over 30 thousand of students study.
The University realizes training and re-training of specialists of 63 naturalistic and socially-pertaining to the humanitres specialities and 157 specializations according to degree system- bachelors (4 yrs.), specialists (1yr.) and masters (1.5-2 yrs.). The yearly competition to the University exceeds 3 persons per place and at some faculties up to 6-11 persons per place.
In order to provide comfortable conditions for students, there is the campus area with morern dormitries, dining halls, computer clubs, a fitness center and cafes. In order to ensure rest and recreation of the students and staff, the University runs a health resort center and recreation centers in Crimea and on the banks of Dnipro River.
The doors of Kyiv University are open to anyone who is eager to devote himself or herself, to enhance the intellectual potential and to develop the arts and economy of Ukraine.
