National Natural Park Podilsky TovtryTovtry - the local name of rocky arc-shaped ridge, the height within NNP is 401 meters above sea level. This ridge raises for 60 - 65 meters from the surrounding plain. The Tovtry is a barrier reef from the Miocene Sea and consists of different kinds of limestone. There are no analogies in the world, although there are some similar geological structures of rocky ridges in Great Britain and the United States. The Tovtry is the remnant of costal reefs scretched parallel to the ancient coastal line. These reefs had been arising in the middle and upper Miocene. The Tovtry began to form on the bases of the coastal reefs, where there were concentrations of different types of minerals. Microclimate of Prydnistrovya (the area along the Dnister River in the Kamyanets Region) is formed by the Tovtry Ridge, the Dnister's canyons and the Dnister's inflows. Therefore, special conditions were formed for preserving rare and relict plants, among which, the majority are medicinal.
