SolidaritySolidarity is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), formed in 1998, whose original mission was to assist drug users, alcoholics, the homeless, the mentally ill, people infected with HIV and the families of those groups. The mission was subsequently expanded to include the education of youth concerning drug and alcohol abuse and HIV and to assist orphans. Recently, the mission was expanded even further to include children at risk and street children. In seeking to help ALL of these marginalized people of this community, however, Solidarity needed to and succeeded in finding a "center" for its activities. That center was intravenous drug users (IDU). With IDU as the central sphere, all other groups had some degree of overlap (whether the group was homeless, HIV-infected, orphans, alcoholics, . . . ). The mission, therefore, was to help IDUs and all of the groups to which the IDUs were commonly connected. [Note: Once Solidarity clearly defined its mission, it also allowed for programs to assist the elderly, invalids and "shut ins" who were not directly related to IDUs but who were clearly marginalized members of the community.] Phone: +380 342 777 331 34th S.
