 Ukrainian AmberThe amber resources in Ukraine were explored long ago, but its official mining was approved in 1991. The same year the association of business cooperation “Osnova” was found up, which was later renamed into the corporation. Otherwise, it was not able to provide necessary facilities for the treatment of such national wealth of our country as amber. That’s why, in February 1993, due to the President’s of Ukraine decree, the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Amber” was established. It consisted of three mining fields situated on north of the region. The fourth one was located in Rivne specialized in processing of raw amber into jewelry. In 2001 this enterprise was restructured into two daughter enterprises “Amber” with the head-office in Rivne and “Amber mines” with the head-office in Sarny, Rivne region. Nowadays, the industrial amber extraction is realized on few pits of Sarny, Dubrovytsia and Volodymyrec regions and its average output amounts over 3 tons a year. Permanent investments in engineering, machinery and technical equipment make amber mining more accessible and growth its output. Nowadays the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Amber” having been finally formed in November, 2005 is the biggest one and dimensioned amber-extractive enterprise with its great resources, second after Kaliningrad (Russian Federation).
